I'm currently doing well after a back surgery, but I'm currently doing well after a back surgery, but it will be about six weeks before I can start delicately working on dulcimers again.
In my search for things to do at my current level of ability, I lapped an old Turkish sharpening stone I recently acquired. The stone was deeply and unevenly worn, but the better face lapped out beautifully.
It is darker, harder, and denser than the two Cretan sharpening stones I use, which some people say may be the same variety of stone as the Turkish stones, but it cuts remarkably fast like the Cretan stones, and also like the Cretan stones, varying the use of pressure, water, and slurry makes it very versatile for coarse to very fine honing.
If I get bored, I'll lap the other face, which looks more like the surface of the moon than a sharpening stone!

In this photo, we are playing our arrangement of the ever popular Pachelbel's Canon in D, arranged for Stumpf fiddle and tuned pop bottles.
This performance was for a wedding processional, and just as the photo was taken, Cynthia was telling me, "Pick up the tempo, so we can get out of here in time to make it to that Bar Mitzvah gig later today."
Marriage and music; they're both about teamwork!
